Absolutely everything in life can be a meditation.
Simply notice what you are doing right now, and nothing else.
Our body has no choice but to be in the present moment.
Our brain, however (the miracle that she is), has the ability to flit and dance around all sorts of realities and universes, including “past”, “future” and the fifth dimension known as “imagination”.
This is a wonderful gift, but if not reigned in once in a while, the dichotomy of body existing in one reality and the brain being in another, will begin to create pathologies known as “exhaustion” and “anxiety”. This speaks to why it’s so vitally important to notice within ourselves the difference between activities that soothe and activities that numb….
Anything can be turned into a meditation, as you drop into moment-to-moment awareness.
Ideas include:
Breathing
Walking
Sitting
Singing
Humming
Running
Rockclimbing
Looking and noticing
Listening
Biking
Showering
Cleaning
Organizing
Yoga
Qi Gong
Tai Chi
Reading
Playing with children
Playing with pets
Listening to music
Making Love
Drawing
Colouring
Painting
Dancing
And much much more. The point is, if you are completely and utterly with whatever you are doing, almost anything in life can be a meditation. This sense of wholeness and peace is accessible to all.
And while we’re at it, let’s stop judging our day by how productive we were, and instead measure it by how present we were.
Be…
here…
now...
